Brad Oakes

Inter Dimensional Bloke of Mystery

There are very few comedians in Melbourne who hold the distinction of comedy master you can count them on one hand, people who innovate create and help others along the path, if there was a comedy university Brad Oakes would be on the faculty. He write for various magazines runs work shops and is respected by every comedian in Melbourne Sydney and Perth for helping out were ever he can.
Brad is what they call a veteran, twelve years of standup. from the early days of the Gasometre with lines like "Im on steroids but nobody told me you were supposed to exercise" to become one of Australia's best ass kickin comics. Not only that but as an added bonus he's a funny old fellow as well.
Wooo really tired from that workout at the gym

Here are some questions posed by other comedians about the Brad.
Does he really go to the gym?
Yes but only to stretch
If comedy was RocknRoll what would brad be?

What would Humphrey B Bear look like out of the suit?

You can read Brads page in BEAT magazine each week. Were like this page he keeps all abreast of the goings on in comedy.

What about the act. Brad's experience shows through, he is the consummate professional on stage, one of the things you remember him for is that he actually looks like he's having fun up there. A lot of comedian's separate themselves from the audience watching Brad it feels like he's down in the crowd with you. He's personality leaps off the stage and sits next to you. He avoids many of the standard comedy clichés like my girlfriend dumped me or I lost my job instead he points the finger at life. plus he's a walking encyclopedia of jokes, that helps.
There are thought pauses in his act which actually work very few comedians seem to be able to do this and its a real sign of experience Pommy Johnson, Colin Cole, Shane Hill, are able to pull it off nearly as well as Brad, who probably taught them all how to do it. When I first Saw him I thought he'd run out of breath (he's a big Man) but NO he was pausing for effect and to think "brilliant".
