Pommy" Colin" Johnson
One Wild and Crazy Guy.
Well what can you say about Pommy Johnson that hasn't already been said. Pommy or Colin is one of Melbourne's best known comedians. He first rose to fame after doing a Red Faces spot in which he very cleverly wore a rubber kitchen glove on his head. I don't think a lot of people realised it at the time but Pommy was already a comedian, winning Red Faces did not make him one. It helped his career along and made him a very recognisable face. The rest is all talent pure genius and a blinding brilliance beyond compare. He would have to be one of the best and quickest ad-libbers in the business. As an example I will cast your minds back to Dave Grants anniversary show at the Star and Garter. Pommy actually ad-libbed the whole set. Talking about the good old days, trips to L.A. Pommy also did that anti smoking ad the one where hasn't got time to give up the fags (guess what folks!) he's done it all from film to TV to radio. What makes Pommy good is his speed his adaptability combined with a twisted wit and those zany crazy body movements (some refer to this as a lack of body function) when he first started out Pommy played guitar and wrote wacky songs that matched his on-stage personality the guitar is appearing less and less, but the song writing seems to still be there for example he wrote Chris Franklin's bloke song, which became a bit of an Australian phenomena.
When not doing standup.
Lies around faking illness so he can watch Chris Franklin's big TV set.
Go to the casino you'll see him there but don't expect him to be funny.
Did a stint working with under privileged and mentally challenged kids, something you can only do for so long no matter how good your intentions.
